Bursary & Mentoring Programme For Artists & Makers

Chrysalis Arts is launching a new programme for Artists & Makers to support the development of emerging talent and skills in Rural and Green Arts Practice. We have an outstanding track record in supporting the development of artists’ talent in rural areas and in promoting innovation in rural arts practice. 

Participants will access bespoke mentoring support and collaborative learning opportunities whilst simultaneously developing and implementing their project. This could include a residency, social engagement project or the creation of a new body of work for professional presentation. Audience engagement is required as a key component of each project and funding is available to cover the cost of materials, research, travel, production, documentation, audience engagement etc.
Participation in the programme will include:

  • Initial interviews and consultation with Chrysalis Arts to develop and agree an individual learning programme.
  • Peer group learning opportunities, including group visits with other participating artists facilitated by Chrysalis Arts.
  • Free participation in Art Connections courses including our current Greening Arts Practice course,

Applicants may apply at any stage between 5 April and 31 July 2018.

Greening Arts Practice

A new professional development programme to support artists’ practice and engagement with climate change and related environmental and sustainability issues.

Chrysalis Arts Development is launching a new programme of talks and discussions incorporating a diverse range of approaches to art, ecological and sustainability issues. The programme should be of interest to artists who are thinking about how they can get involved in these issues as an evolving part of their practice as well as those who are already working in this area. It will involve artists, curators, producers and those who work with them with the aim of offering different perspectives and experiences and overcoming some of the barriers and perceptions that currently restrict creative participation.

1:1 Advice with Curators

A chance to discuss your work with an experienced curator in a private and supportive setting. Each session lasts approximately 45mins, participants receive a written summary of the advice given after the session. Places are limited – early booking is advised. Cost: £25 / Concessions £15.*

Sessions must be pre-booked and can be face to face at The Art Depot in Gargrave or via a prearranged phone call and email. Sessions  last up to a maximum of one hour and are delivered by the most appropriate member of the Art Connections team. We can provide advice on:

  • Working to commission

Improve Your Online Promotion

The Art Depot, Gargrave; 1st March 2018

A one-day workshop on developing your marketing and promotion skills online.  This session is aimed at artists and makers who are not confident in using digital resources and want to improve how they use online platforms and social media to promote themselves and their work.
We will cover:

  • Tools and resources available to market ourselves online

  • Online marketing – email, website, social media, online shops
  • Creating an action plan

Finding Your Feet

Each year, Chrysalis Arts run the Finding Your Feet professional development programme for early career visual artists.

These sessions, presented by Chrysalis Arts, offer an overview of how to develop a portfolio career as an artist, highlighting a range of opportunities and approaches including:

  • Developing an artistic practice and professional identity
  • Working with other people: collaboration and social engagement
  • Making applications and setting up your own project
  • Contacts, Networks and Information Sources

Seminars and networking events

Seminars organised by Art Connections usually focus on good practice and specific topics that may be of benefit to artists’ career development. They often provide an opportunity for artists to hear speakers working at national and international level including other artists, curators, commissioners and funders, and for networking.

Art Unpacked

Art Unpacked is a Chrysalis Arts project which curates and tours a series of exhibitions to an evolving network of venues. As part of Art Unpacked, there is a programme of CPD opportunities for curatorial and exhibition skills development, for participating venue staff, volunteers and other aspiring curators in the region.
