Extending Practice/Celebrating Place
The success of Inspired by Heritage encouraged Chrysalis to develop this model for an ambitious project which combined commissions with mentoring support.
Extending Practice/Celebrating Place took place between 2010 and 2012. It offered commissions to ten North Yorkshire artists, working in different artforms, to produce a piece of work celebrating an aspect of North Yorkshire life, heritage, landscape or culture. There was a programme of sustained mentoring in place for these artists, and this was extended to a further thirteen artists whose work included music, writing and theatre as well as the visual arts and crafts. Overall eleven visual artists took part in the project.
“It was extremely useful to have this extended time to discuss the work and where it is going and, overall the funding has had a big impact on my work, allowing me the freedom to experiment without the pressure of a project to complete by a specific deadline.” Tessa Bunney
