I design and make furniture for interiors and gardens in a variety of hardwoods. I was taught the basics of my craft by Wyn Bishop. Who in turn had trained with John Makepeace at Parnham House during the 1970's. Thereafter I am self taught.
My work is an exploration of interrelating shapes, proportion, colour and methods of construction with the intention to allow pieces to develop through experimentation and simple judgement of what feels to be correct in terms of aesthetics and comfort. I do not look to what has gone before for inspiration but do take motivation from the history and evolution of design as proof that there will always be something new to discover.
I have a particular interest in seating, furniture that directly interacts with the body and I continually investigate ergonomics, prototyping much of my work at actual size. Pieces are often made bespoke to the physique of the client.
I would describe my work as: sensuous - organic. Interconnecting curves. Tapering forms. This interplays very well with ergonomics to produce striking, usable furniture. Tactile - shapes and finishes that invite contact and use. Substantial - visually and physically strong.
Prices from £300 upwards.
