Goldsmiths' Craft and Design Council

These awards form part of the Goldsmiths' Craft & Design Council’s programme to promote excellence in silversmithing, goldsmithing, jewellery and the allied crafts. Entries are invited from designers and makers who are engaged in designing or working with precious metals, gemstones and other allied materials.

THE CRAFT SKILLS AWARDS

Deadline: 15 Feb

The Craft Skills Awards acknowledge excellence in teaching, maintaining and developing the craft skills of the craftsperson as well as those of others. Individuals, groups and organisations involved in teaching, maintaining and developing craft skills can apply. Passing on and developing craft skills are vital for creating and maintaining crafts for the future and to ensure that crafts survive and flourish as a vibrant part of our economy.

Winners will awarded £2,500 for training, craft equipment, skills development, business support, travel or a visit to extend their knowledge and understanding of craft.

PORTRAIT PRIZE

Mall Galleries

Deadline: 21 Feb

The new £20,000 portrait painting + drawing prize from the Royal Society of Portrait Painters pushes the boundaries of self-representation in painting + drawing. Online Pre-selection is open for an exhibition at London’s Mall Galleries. Submissions of adventurous, fresh self-portraits are invited in oil, watercolour, acrylic, pastel, pencil, sanguine, conté, any dry medium + original prints. 

Up to 6 works can be submitted, none exceeding 2.4m in any direction. 

Submission fee £12 per work (£6 for artists under 35 years of age) 

Hand-in point available in Manchester.

INTERNATIONAL FEATURE PHOTOGRAPHERS COMPETITION

Deadline: 1 Apr

Open call to photographers world-wide for an opportunity to exhibit your work for one month at ViewPoint Gallery, a contemporary photography gallery located in the heart of one of Canada’s most vibrant arts communities, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Awards Twelve winning images will receive one month of exhibition in ViewPoint Gallery. The works will be professionally printed, framed, promoted and offered for sale in the Gallery.

INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

Best Shots

Winners share £10,000 in cash prizes plus some photographic equipment.  Best Shots is open to all photographers with 10 submission categories. A prestigious professional judging panel will critique every entry. 100 Best Shots to be exhibited and sold across England, Scotland and Wales.

NEW LIGHTS ARTS PRIZE

Deadline: 31 May

Entries now open for the second £10,000 New Lights Art Prize. 

This award aims to provide a springboard for emerging artists who were born, are living, or have trained in the North of England.

All shortlisted entries will be included in a biennial, high profile exhibition held in one of the region’s most stunning spaces, The Mercer Art Gallery in Harrogate, which will run from 21 September until 17 November 2013.

UNI FEE FUND
Ideas Tap

Saddled by student debt? Whether you're a first-year student or a graduate, if you embarked on a BA or BMus in 2006* or later, you could benefit from having £9,000 wiped off your Student Loans Company balance by arts charity IdeasTap. 

For a chance to win, simply tell in 100 words or less what you could offer to IdeasTap's network in exchange for the money. It could be an idea or a service, for example "This is how you could improve your site..." or "I'll run this Spa event for your members..." ­ the more imaginative, original and feasible the idea, the better!

SAINSBURY SCHOLARSHIP IN PAINTING & SCULPTURE

Applications are invited for the Sainsbury Scholarship in Painting and Sculpture 2013-14.
This prestigious award for a promising and ambitious painter or sculptor is a twelve-month residency at the British School at Rome(October 2013-September 2014). It offers an en-suite residential studio, meals in our communal dining room, 24-hour access to our historic library collection, a research grant of c. £700 per month, a travel grant of £1,200 and a group show.

Jonathan Ruffer Curatorial Grants help curators working with fine and applied art collections in museums and galleries to maintain and develop their specialist knowledge and expertise.

Grants awarded aim to help promote curatorial development and collections-based research. There are 2 categories of grant: up to £2000, + above £2000.

COAST, WOLDS, WETLANDS & WATERWAYS 

LEADER

Financial assistance is available to businesses, social enterprises and community groups based in East Riding of Yorkshire, Ryedale and Scarborough.

LEADER aims to assist rural communities to improve the quality of life and economic prosperity in their local area. LEADER has operated in different forms since 1991 but now makes up the fourth axis of the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE). This will last from 2007-2013, but may be extended.

NORTH YORK MOORS, COAST & HILLS FUND

LEADER

Financial assistance is available to businesses, social enterprises and community groups based in rural areas of Hambleton, Ryedale, Scarborough, and Redcar and Cleveland.

Most grants will range between £5,000 and £30,000. However, some applicants may be entitled to receive up to £100,000.

Grants can cover 100% of the total project costs - match funding is not a requirement, but will be looked upon favourably.
