Artist Profile: David Jennings
After gaining a 1st class Honours Degree in Illustration and Design at Sunderland University in 2003, I exhibited my work at the 'New Designers' exhibition in London. Several publishers in the children's books and greeting cards industries expressed interest in my work.
Since then I have been working as a freelance illustrator, designer and animator. Recently I have been commissioned to produce work for children’s books, graphics, web design and animation. I have also been employed to teach animation and illustration with children and teachers at primary and secondary schools all over Yorkshire.
My main interest is in character based illustration, interactive animation and web design.
I combine drawing on the computer using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop with ink, pencil, pastel and watercolour scanned into the computer. This enables me to combine techniques which could not normally be used together, as well as allowing me to change the scale, colour and transparency of my illustrations.
My work was recently featured in the book "Adobe Illustrator CS3 WOW!!" published by Peachpit where they wrote about the techniques I use and involved beta testing Adobe Illustrator CS3 before it was released to the public.
