Artist Profile: Jane Kennelly

Jane Kennelley works in pen and ink, watercolour and etching. Copper-plate and aquatint give a fineness of line and gentle tones, together with the complexity of overlay and obliteration, that are in tune with the abstract, organic nature of her work. Many of the framed etchings had an initial starting point in narrative and poetry, though the text did not appear in the work. Recent bookworks have resolved the text/image conundrem and allowed the words themselves to have a tangible presence. She recently produced a bok Feral Angel with text and illustrations and is currently working on a series of photo-etched botanical prints, for which she received and Art Council Yorkshire Research and Development Grant.
