Artist Profile: Marianne von Tucka

My work consists of sculptural objects, contemporary vessels and wall-pieces which vary in scale from 10-60cm high. Clay is a wonderful material to work with and I am continually exploring ways to create different forms. Onto each piece lines and shapes are incised to create a design which counterpoints the form. A fascination with the firing and glazing process has inspired me to develop a personal range of textured and vibrantly coloured stoneware glazes. These are applied by brush in multiple layers and some areas are wax-resisted to retain the definition of adjacent glazed areas. The tactile surface reflects that of natural stones and richly coloured minerals.

I have a very eclectic and intuitive approach to my work and am aware of many influences. These included my interest in sailing vessels, astronomy, painters such as Klee and Kadinsky as well as my initial training in music.
