Sally Gatie

Back to Main Categories

Sally Gatie is a contemporary figurative painter working in oil on canvas from her studio in Scarborough.

The human figure has been Sally’s main source of inspiration, and continues to be central to her work. The figure is an important starting point for her, often an expression or a pose is inspiration for her next composition. Working from sketches and photomontages, Sally creates paintings using a grid system, which has developed as a relic of her time working in Architectural services.  Her love of pattern and texture is obvious in her expressive mark making techniques, depicting the figure gently cradled within a sea of patterned fabric.

Sally gives great importance to her thoughts whilst painting – the paintings work in conjunction with her spiritual philosophy, which reflects her approach to ‘one energy’ and ‘a life that is not accidental’.

Sally paints both large-scale and small-scale artworks. She has recently produced a series of paintings for her solo touring exhibition ‘The White Room’, which consists of four large-scale paintings, the largest of which is 366x183cm, and which form ‘a room’ within a gallery space.

Sally regularly shows her work at Art Fairs in London, Bristol and Edinburgh.

Prices range from £35 for small sketches to £15,000 for large-scale oil paintings.

Current methods of working: Public Commission, Community work, Private Commission and Education projects.
